KAVRE/NUWAKOT, JUL 28 - Hundreds of earthquake victims are living without access to clean drinking water, electricity and toilets in Kavre and Nuwakot districts. “It’s been three months already and we still do not have basic facilities like electricity and drinking water,” said Uddhav Gautam, an earthquake victim from Pokharichaur of Kavre . According to Gautam, they have already informed the local authorities about their difficulties but there has been no progress in their situation so far. Chiranjibi Timsina, local development officer of Kavre , said their pressing priority at the moment was relocation of the villages affected by the earthquake. After the earthquake, Timsina said, many villages in the district are at risk of landslide and they too need to be relocated to safety. Nearly 2,000 families in 41 VDCs of the district are in danger of landslides, he added. The local administration has already relocated 540 households from Nagregarche, Pokharichaur, Chyamrangbesi, Boldephe- diche, Pokharinarayansthan, Sikharrambote, Chandeni and Mahadevsthan. Meanwhile, the earthquake-displaced families in Nuwakot district have also complained about lack of basic facilities in camps. Hom Bahadur Ghale, one of the victims, said the cases of snakebites during the nights have increased as the camp has no electricity. “The camp also doesn’t have drinking water facility and proper toilets. The government has neglected us,” he said. Another earthquake victim Dahaben Lama said many children who are now living in tents at the district headquarters with their families have stopped going to school after the earthquake. He said the government should take step to enrol the children to local schools. There are 259 earthquake-displaced families from Salme, Bhalche, Kimta, Deurali, Lachhya, Narja and Bidur who are living in tents at the district headquarters.
